Cooper Grace Ward webinar - Business owners and family members as employees

Business owners and family members as employees

Most businesses need employees. In family businesses, these employees are often the owners along with other family members.

With family as employees, we hear things like ‘what could possibly go wrong’, closely followed by ‘I never thought this would happen in my family’.

There are many challenges to consider with family members working in the business. Some stem from employment law, and others from tax, commercial and structuring rules.

In this webinar, Scott Hay-Bartlem, partner in our private client team, and Annie Smeaton, partner in our workplace relations and safety team, explore the different issues that arise when family members work in the business, including:

  • the importance of robust employment law documents and systems

  • paying a family member as an employee versus paying an equity return

  • payroll tax issues

  • what happens when the relationship sours.

This session is essential for business owners, family members involved in the business and advisers

The webinar will be recorded, so, if you are unable to attend at the advertised time, we will send you the live recording for future viewing.

We hope to see you there.
